Curtis Davies, born on
March 15, 1985 in Leytonstone, London, England to an English mother and
a Sierra Leonean Father, is a central defender with Aston Villa. He made
his debut for the England U-21 in February 2006 against Norway.
Curtis Davies began as a trainee with
Wimbledon for nearly a year, after which he wrote to local soccer clubs
asking for a trial. He was first picked up by the English football club
Luton Town Football Club (F.C.) and scored two impressive goals in his
trial to receive a scholarship from the club. Curtis Davies made his
full team debut in 2003 and made six appearances in the league that
season. In the 2004-05 season he improved his number of appearances to
44 matches. For his impressive performance that year, Curtis Davies was
conferred the League One ‘Player of the Year’, and the ‘Luton Town Young
Player of the Year’ titles. He was also named in the League One
Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Team of the Year for
2004-05.
Curtis Davies was signed up by West Bromwich Albion Football Club
in August 2005 for a whopping £3 million and had a great run in the
first season. He signed a four-year deal in July 2006 with West
Bromwich, and created history by becoming Albion’s second youngest
captain ever. He played 65 games for the club during 2005-2008 and was
included in the PFA Championship Team of the Year for 2006–07.
Aston Villa, an English professional football club, signed Curtis
Davies on a loan for a season in August 2007. He made his debut in
November that year at the Premier League against Derby County F.C. His
move to Aston Villa was made permanent when he signed a four year deal
in July 2008. He feels that he must live up to the expectation of his
selectors by playing well in not just a single game but in the entire
season.
