Israel Sesay: One of U.S. Soccer's brightest young
stars, Sesay came to the Galaxy as part of a weighted lottery in August.
A member of the U.S. U-17 National Team pool, Sesay immediately becomes
one of the quickest players in MLS. Excellent on the ball, Sesay moved
to the United States from his native Sierra Leone in 2001 at the age of
11, settling with his family in Gaithersburg, Md. Sesay, who goes by the
nickname Izzy, played for local club team Bethesda Arsenal and joined
U.S. Soccer's Residency Program in August 2006. He has played in 14
games with the U.S. Under-17 '90 age group since 2006, appearing in 14
games while making ten starts and collecting three assists.
MLS EXPERIENCE
2007: Officially joined the Galaxy just prior to the SuperLiga final on
8/29 and made his first appearance for the Galaxy Reserves just a few
days later, playing on the right side of midfield and collecting an
assist in the 4-2 win over the RSL Reserves ... Made his debut in the
18-man squad as an unused substitute in the 3-1 win vs. COL on 9/8 ...
Made his MLS debut, playing the final minute of the 3-0 loss @ CHV on
9/13. That appearance made him the youngest player in Galaxy history to
have appeared in an MLS game at 17 years and nine days. Sesay, who is
the eighth youngest player in MLS history, was also the first player in
the history of MLS to be born in 1990 and play in a league match.
