PROSPECTS
With the current trend of African Footballers impacting major teams globally,
the Sierra Leone International Football Academy (SLIFA) founding members
recognize the need for Sierra Leone’s “raw” talent to be fine tuned and become
an integral part of the global make up. The dream of becoming professional
footballers is not farfetched and the attainment of equitable educational
standard is also realistic. This is the core value of SLIFA as it is in
conformity with the Sierra Leone Government demand of an “exit strategy” for
every member of the academy.
SLIFA is well equipped with technical manpower, training equipments and
facilities. Players have the luxury of being under the supervision of the finest
coaching staff currently headed by the country’s U17 assistant coach, Abdulai
Bah aka Kaloga. Through the academy’s sponsors and affiliates players will have
the opportunity of training and competing with overseas youth academies in the
form of cultural exchange. This will ultimately provide an appreciation of their
accomplishment as well as the opportunity of being scouted by interested bodies.
The academy is committed to providing players a first class football education
as well as academic education through its comprehensive, structured curriculum.
Football education will be structured such that the following will be perfected:
- Dribbling
- Passing
- Shooting
- Heading
- Goalkeeping
- Discipline
|
- Defending 1 v 1
- Defending 2 v 2
- Defending 1 v 2
- Defending 2 v 2
- Attacking 1 v 1
- Attacking 2 v 2
|
- Warming Up
- Stretching
- Cooling Down
- Fair Play
- Ball Control
- Running with the ball
|
- Turning with the ball
- Match Health and Safety
- Principles of Attack in Match Situations
- Principles of Defense in Match Situations
|
SLIFA’s academic education is also structured such that it is not focused solely
as an exit strategy or safety net for unfulfilled professional football career,
but life long much needed skills that will prove valuable throughout in life.
The emphasis will be on Sport Education, Sciences and Information Technology
with particular focus on these core subjects:
- Physical Science
- Biological Science
- Information Technology
|
- Anatomy and Physiology
- Sports Psychology
- Research Methods
|
- Sociology of Sport
- Exercise Physiology
- Nutrition for Sport & Appraisal
|
- Sports Coaching Strategy, Tactics & Systems of Play
- HIV/AIDS Awareness
|
The academy is constantly scouting for young talents both at home and abroad. At
the moment overseas scouting is largely done in the USA, but soon to be expanded
far and beyond. The present affairs of Soccer as it is known in the US is worth
exploiting, both at the professional and tertiary educational
level.
